Since 1991, the Montpellier Mediterranean Film Festival has been awarding the Development Aid Grant for feature films projects thanks to the Centre national du cinéma et de l'image animée, the International Organization of French-speaking Communities, the Région Languedoc-Roussillon, the Association Beaumarchais, and Éclair Group.
A writing residency is also offered by the Cinema Writing Center Le Moulin d’Andé.
15 projects have been selected in 2016 and will be presented by the directors and the producers in public on 25-26 October 2016 in front of a jury composed by professionals. The jury will subsequently award a grant to several projects.

Le Christ recrucifié de Théo Papadoulakis, réalisateur et Ionna Davi, productrice Indigo View Productions (Grèce).

With half of humanity eliminated after a global pandemic, a small religious community survives on an isolated Greek island governed by a foreign ruler. Manolis, a 20 years old shepherd, is chosen by the elite to take on the role of Jesus Christ in the upcoming passion play. The preparations for Easter are disrupted when a boatload of Greek refugees arrives and they are denied asylum by their compatriots. Manolis, inspired by his role as Jesus, decides to protect them and stand up against the local authority.

1516. Algiers, then a small Arab-Berber republic, is suffocating because of the Spanish’s occupation that controls the port for six years. King Salim Toumi allies himself to the pirate Barbarossa to liberate the city. After the victory, Salim was found dead in his bath. Barbarossa becomes the new master of Algiers and has to deal with rebellion. History and legend also tells that Salim Toumi, last King of Algiers, had a wife named Zaphira that Aroudj Barbarossa would have envied him. Barbarossa supposedly said: "I will take his palace, I will ride his horse, and his wife."


Dieu reconnaîtra les siens de Hassan Legzouli, réalisateur et Lionel Guedj, producteur, To Be Continued (France/Belgique/Maroc).

After ten years spent in the “Islamism international system”, which took him from France to London via Bosnia or Afghanistan, Hamid, in his thirties, comes back to his hometown in northern France. Everybody believes him dead and he does not want this to change, for his family in particular. But he can’t refrain from seeing Rafiq, his little  brother.

Four interwoven stories of young people from different social classes, under an oppressive sociopolitical system that threatens their freedom: Iffet, a cleaning lady, decides to sell drugs to send money to her son who is in prison; Didem and Ayse, from the ghetto dream to take part in a dance competition; Ela, a video artist and activist, researches and documents the urban transformation and gentrification that threaten the ghetto’s cultural heritage; Rasit, who yearns to be a member of the new civil police department, films her secretly to denounce her actions to the authoritie.

HELENA, 30 is an activist and strong personality. She is pregnant but In this world if you want to have a baby is not as natural as usual. There is a Birth Control System that allows you to have a baby if you have a certain income and that's why she keeps it secret from her boyfriend. YANNIS, 11 a wealthy but neglected boy who lives with his ignoring father, a corrupted man who works for the company, trying to react the authority of his father he escapes and he meets a new friend from the forbidden areas. Together will explore the dark side of the city. In this world homosexuality is illegal and if you get arrested you ll ended up in a Reform Centre. ERIC, 45 is Yannis's father bodyguard and a proud family man. He has also a secret relationship with a man and he is trapped between his social status that he has to maintain and his need to feel loved and free with a person he chooses.


Le Jouet de Kudret Gunes, réalisatrice et Ali Gül Dönmez, producteur, Cinemorphose productions (France/Turquie/Kurdistan irakien). 

A French little girl settles with her parents in the mountains of Turkish Kurdistan, in her grandmother’s home. There, she discovers a grenade hidden in the ground, which she confuses with a toy. She metamorphoses it into a headstock and equips it with multicoloured fabrics. Rather than going to school, she leaves in search of her missing father who had been embarked by the police. She furrows the town of Urfa. With each silhouette of man she sees, she believes to recognize him but instead she only discovers the suffering of the inhabitants and the refugees in this today Turkish area.


Margherita de Valentina Carnelutti, réalisatrice et Marco Alessi, producteur, Dugong Films (Italie/France/Belgique).

Margherita, 14 years old, is lonesome, she meets an adult’s love. Her father’s craziness, her mother’s selfishness encourage her to cultivate it giving up her own world. She seeks for a limit nobody gives her. She confuses love with violence, with care. As a chameleon she adapts until she feels invisible. A sketch after the other, she draws a bridge between childhood and abuse, dream and salvation.

A French film unit settles in a Romanian village to film a documentary series. If the filming of the first episodes on the traditions of baptism and marriage takes place without difficulty, it is otherwise with the funeral: no one decides to die. French choose to stage it, bringing in their macabre game, villagers yet very superstitious.

Mount Lebanon, 19th century. As political and religious repression rages all around, 25-year-old intellectual Fares al Shidyaq loses his father and brother. Fearing for his own fate, he seeks refuge with Protestant missionaries in Beirut before fleeing the country altogether. Using his pen as a sword, he embarks on a journey from Cairo to Malta, passing through Cambridge and Paris, until he finally ends up in Constantinople.

Camille is a 35 years old French woman who seems to have everything to be happy. Being an ambitious lawyer and a dedicated mother, she succeeds on every level. However during an improvised trip to Morocco with her family, Camille is going to lose all her bearings. After an emotional encounter with an old woman born in the Sahara, Camille will progressively isolate herself from her family. Deciding not to come back to France with her husband and daughters, Camille will only have one goal: see the Sahara Desert.

Eric, 27, is diagnosed with a rare disease which he is told will lead to total body paralysis within a year or two. Despite the support of friends and family, he decides to embark on a solitary road trip towards Mount Etna, which threatens the nearby area with a cataclysmic eruption…


Où ai-je laissé mon visage ? de Ramzi Maqdisi, réalisateur et Iyas Jubeh, producteur, Quds Art (Palestine/France).

Ramzi, a native of Jerusalem lives in Paris with Julie his girlfriend. After a long time being away, Ramzi must go back to Jerusalem to extend his ID papers and visit his family. But the family house has been partially destroy on the order of the local authority. His grandmother can’t handle the shock and dies. Then, Ramzi is overwhelmed by family memories, when he was six years old and was mute. He goes back to Paris but no sooner had he arrived, his passport is stolen. His relationship with Julie ends. She wants a child, he doesn’t. Back in Jerusalem, he attends his brother’s wedding whom house is going to be destroyed too.

Zina knows that the algerian government is going to give an indemnity to the women victim of rape during the civil war. After thinking well, she decides to go back to Algeria with her son, Réda. There, she gets her indemnity and make peace with part of her family, but her older brother, not satisfied by her comeback, reveals the secret about the birth of her son. Réda brutaly knows that he is the result of a rape…


La Reconquête de Lucia Sanchez, réalisatrice et Julie Paratian, productrice, Sister Productions (France/Espagne).

Nathalie, a French teacher and devoted mother in her early forties, is at the end of her rope. The hum drum routine of her marriage is breaking her. In a spur of the moment decision, she opts for a week of self-indulgence in Benidorm, Southern Spain, with Carole, the exuberant Zumba instructor she’s just met. But then husband shows up at this low-cost all-inclusive tourist venue, with their two kids in tow, hoping the « surprise” will help patch things up so they can get her back to how they were before…

In Istanbul, a city on high security alert, Zuhal struggles with her daily routine.  Her day becomes complicated when she hears a cat meowing and realizes no one else does.
