Pierre Gilieth, a French criminal who had killed a man in a bar in Rue Saint-Vincent in Paris, decides to leave France and enrol in the Spanish Legion. He does not know that he is followed by Fernando Lucas, a police informer attracted by the reward. But the two men get together and become friends…


 
 
Julien Duvivier

Born 1896, died 1967. He started his career as an actor in the theatre in 1916. In 1919, he made his first feature film, 'Halcedama ou le prix du sang', a western shot in Corrèze. At the beginning of the talkies, his production was marked by literary adaptations, 'Poil de Carotte' by Jules Renard (1932) and 'Maria Chapdelaine' by Louis Hémon (1934). In the 1930s, he made major films such as 'La Bandera' (1935), 'La Belle Équipe' (1936), 'Pepe le Moko' (1937) and 'Un Carnet de bal' (1937). He was in the United States during the war and made the sketch films 'Flesh and Fantasy' (1943) ' and 'Six destins' (1944). He is very well known for having made 'The Little World of Don Camillo'.
