An elderly priest is devastated when his church is deconsecrated, leaving him without a role in life. It is not long before a group of illegal immigrants find shelter in the "church" and give the priest a new role and set of responsibilities.


 
 
Ermanno Olmi

Born in 1931 à Bergamo, Italy. After studying at The Art Academy of Milan , he made his debut in full-length feature films with Time stood still (1959) , which was transformed in Tv drama in 1959. He shot The job in 1961 and his third feature The fiancés. The director found his own production in 1962. He made also several documentary and Tv drama. He returned in 1968 with One fine day, but he found the inspiration of his best days in The Tree with the Wooden Clogs - (1977), winner of the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival. He made in 1982 and received the Gold Lion with "The Legend of the Holy Drinker. He directed "The Secret of the Old Woods - La leggenda del bosco vecchio" (1993). In 2001 he made Profession of Arms - successfully presented at the Cannes Festival. Centochiodi (2007) was shown at Cannes Festival. In 2009 he directed Terra Madre, Rupi del vino (2009), Il villaggio di cartone (2011) and Tornerrano i prati (2014).
