When they come out of prison, two young Iranian musicians, Negar and Ashkan, decide to form an underground group. Fed up with not being able to express themselves freely in their country, they try to obtain illegal papers so that they can get to Europe. They meet Hamed, who helps them and go to Tehran with him to meet other musicians and try to persuade them to leave the country with them and organise a large clandestine concert to finance their escape.


 
 
Bahman Ghobadi

Born in Baneh, in northwestern Kurdistan Province of Iran. He received a Bachelor of Arts in film directing from the Iranian Broadcasting College. After a brief career in industrial photography, Ghobadi began making short 8 mm films. He was assistant director on Abbas Kiarostami's The Wind Will Carry Us. He founded Mij Film in 2000. His first feature film was A Time for Drunken Horses (2000). The film won Caméra d'Or at Cannes Film Festival. His second feature was Marooned in Iraq (2002). His third feature, Turtles Can Fly, followed in 2004, winning the Glass Bear and Peace Film Award at Berlin International Film Festival. In 2006, Ghobadi's Half Moon won Golden Shell at San Sebastian International Film Festival. In May 2009, his film No One Knows About Persian Cats premiered at Cannes. It chronicles the hardships facing young rock musicians seeking to evade censorship.
