Xavier Alvarez is a small-time architect in Aix-en-Provence on a continuous quest for social recognition. He has fashioned his own career and is prospering but does not manage to win big public contracts to match his dreams of grandeur. He therefore decides to throw himself body and soul into the election campaign of Vincent Cluzel, a candidate—an outsider—for the position of mayor, certain that Cluzel will give him a helping hand if he wins. Using energy and ruse, he manages to discredit the favourite and get Cluzel elected. But their sincere friendship formed in the conquest of power then comes up against the limits of self-interest and ambition.

François Favrat

Assistant director for several feature films, co-scriptwriter of two features (Bord de mer by Julie Lopes Curval, Caméra d'or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2002, and Elle est des nôtres by Siegrid Alnoy), François Favrat made his first short film, Mon meilleur amour, in 2001 (more than twenty selections at film festivals in France and elsewhere). His first feature film, Le Rôle de sa vie with Agnès Jaoui and Karin Viard, was released in June 2004. In 2009, he made La Sainte Victoire, a thriller with Christian Clavier and Clovis Cornillac centred on municipal elections in Aix-en-Provence.
