Ludovico Massa, nicknamed Lulu, is a model worker in a metallurgical factory. He is very fast and his production is cited as a example by the boss. The other workers do not approve of such infernally high rates. Cradled in the dreams of consumer society with his wife, his son Arturo, his car and his television, Lulu is sometimes aware of the vain life that he leads. When he loses a finder in an accident at work he takes a deep look at himself. He then approves of the need for an unlimited strike…


 
 
Elio Petri

Born in 1923 in Rome in a working-class family. His father was a copper worker. Journalist and critic for communist publications (Unità, Città aperta), Petri left the party in 1956. From 1953 to 1960 he was assistant and co-screenwriter for Giuseppe de Santis, the director of Riso amaro (Bitter Rice). Selected filmography: L'Assassin (1961), I giorni contati (1962), La Dixième victime (1965), À chacun son dû (1957), Un coin tranquille à la campagne (1969), Enquête sur un citoyen au-dessus de tout soupçon (1970), La Classe ouvrière va au paradis (1971), La Propriété c'est plus le vol (1973), Todo modo (1976). He died in 1982.
