It can be seen from the sea and from the garrigue region inland. It is imposing, dignified and fragile. It has stood like a sentinel in the suburbs of Montpellier for forty years. It is called 'Tour d'Assas'. It has twenty-two floors, three lifts, three hundred flats and is the home of a thousand people. While its companions have been demolished one by one, it is still there, obtrusive in the view from nearby residential villages. It is in the administrative 'tall building' category and the highest residential block in the whole of the Languedoc-Roussillon region.
