The young Mokhtar lives with his family is a small, isolated village in Morocco. He minds his father's flock of goats. One day he finds a baby owl that has fallen from its nest and decides to save it. However, he knows that in the region owls are thought to bring bad luck. This marls the beginning of a painful conflict with his family from which Mokhtar comes out bruised but more grown up.

Halima Ouardiri

Born of a Swiss mother and a Moroccan father in 1977 in Geneva where she spent her childhood and adolescence, touching various fields as varied as dressage of horses and close protection of Saudi Arabian princesses. Settled in Montreal and studied political science and then cinema at Concordia University. Worked for EyeSteelFilm and gained experience in the production of independent films. She wrote the screenplay and directed Au Sol (2004), a fiction short, and La Robe (2009), a documentary short. She won the Grand Prix of the 'Cours écrire ton court !' competition organised by SODEC with the screenplay for Mokhtar which she then directed.
