Maria Ester Beomonte known as Maria Denis, became famous in the forties thanks to many successful films: from La maestrina to Le due orfanella, from Sissignora to Addio giovinezza, she would play the role of a sweet, lively girl, which suited to her shining, soap-and-water complexion perfectly. Her image of purety devoided of affection won the hearts of the critics and the public, and earned her the nickname of “Italy's sweetheart”. The film looks at the life and career of one of the most famous divas of Italian cinema. Through the clear, witty stories the actress tells it reconstructs the historical, cultural and political picture of a whole era.
